Got a Magnavox DV220MW9, DV225MG9 or MWD2206 DVD/VCR combo and not sure how to hook it up? All three set up almost the same way, and the Funai DV220FX5 does too. This guide walks you through it in about four minutes: watch the video, or follow the written steps below. It works with any TV, including newer TVs that only have HDMI ports.

Step 1: Gather What You Need
- The player (DV220MW9, DV225MG9, MWD2206 or Funai DV220FX5)
- The remote with fresh batteries
- A red, white and yellow RCA cable
- For HDMI-only TVs: a small AV-to-HDMI adapter and an HDMI cable
If you bought your player from TEKlinq, all of this is already in the box. Lay everything out, and don't plug the player into the wall yet. We'll do that last.
Step 2: Check the Back of Your TV
You're looking for one of two things:
- Three round jacks colored yellow, white and red, often labeled AV IN or VIDEO IN. Follow Option A.
- Only flat, rectangular HDMI ports. Follow Option B.
Step 3, Option A: TVs With Colored AV Jacks
- On the back of the player, find the jacks labeled AUDIO OUT and VIDEO OUT. These work for both the VCR and the DVD player.
- Plug the yellow cable into VIDEO OUT, the white cable into the white AUDIO OUT jack, and the red cable into the red one.
- Plug the other ends into the matching colors on your TV: yellow to yellow, white to white, red to red.
- Make sure you're using the OUT jacks, not the IN jacks.
You'll also see COMPONENT VIDEO OUT and, on some models, S-VIDEO OUT. Those only work for DVDs, so stick with yellow, white and red so both tapes and discs play.
Step 3, Option B: HDMI-Only TVs
- Plug the yellow, white and red cables into AUDIO OUT and VIDEO OUT on the back of the player, just like Option A.
- Plug the other ends into the matching colored jacks on the AV-to-HDMI adapter.
- Connect an HDMI cable from the adapter to any open HDMI port on your TV. Note the number next to that port, like HDMI 1 or HDMI 2.
- Power the adapter: plug its USB cable into a USB port on your TV or into a USB wall plug.

Step 4: Power On and Choose the Input
- Plug the player's power cord into the wall, press the power button, and turn on your TV.
- On the TV remote, press INPUT or SOURCE. Choose AV or Video for Option A, or the HDMI number you noted for Option B.
- The first time you turn it on, the player may ask you to pick a language. Use the arrow buttons to choose English, then press ENTER.
- If a clock screen appears, you can set the time, or press SETUP to skip it.
- On the MWD2206, you may also see a channel scan. Just let it finish.
Step 5: Remote Basics
These players use one remote for both parts. Press VCR on the remote to control the tape player, and DVD to control the disc player. A small light on the front of the player shows which one is active.
Step 6: Play a VHS Tape
- Press VCR.
- Slide a tape into the slot, label side up, flap end first. Many tapes start playing on their own; if yours doesn't, press PLAY.
- If the picture looks wavy or has lines, press the TRACKING buttons until it clears up.
- When you're done, press STOP, then STOP/EJECT on the front of the player.
Step 7: Play a DVD
- Press DVD.
- Press OPEN/CLOSE to slide out the disc tray, and set the disc in label side up.
- Press PLAY. The tray closes and the movie starts.
- To take it out, press STOP, then OPEN/CLOSE.
Troubleshooting
- No picture: make sure the TV is on the right input, and that the cables are in AUDIO OUT and VIDEO OUT, not COMPONENT or S-VIDEO.
- No picture on an HDMI-only TV: check that the adapter's USB power cable is plugged in.
- Picture but no sound: check that the white and red plugs are pushed in snugly at both ends.
- Remote controls the wrong part: press VCR or DVD on the remote first, then try again.
