Got a Samsung curved Blu-ray player, like the BD-J5700, BD-JM57C, BD-J5100 or BD-J5900, and want to get it hooked up? They all share the same curved design and set up exactly the same way. This guide gets you from box to movie in about three minutes: watch the video, or follow the written steps below.
Which Players This Guide Covers
Samsung's 2015 curved Blu-ray players all use the same layout and the same remote (AK59-00149A):
- BD-J5700, plus the retailer versions BD-JM57 and BD-JM57C (built-in Wi-Fi)
- BD-J5100 and BD-JM51 (wired network only, no Wi-Fi)
- BD-J5900 (adds 3D Blu-ray playback)

Step 1: Gather What You Need
- The player
- The remote with two fresh AAA batteries
- An HDMI cable
If you bought your player from TEKlinq, all of this is already in the box. Lay everything out, and don't plug the player into the wall yet. We'll do that last.
Step 2: Check Your TV for an HDMI Port
Look on the back or side of your TV for a flat, rectangular HDMI port. These players connect only with HDMI. They don't have red, white and yellow jacks, so your TV needs at least one open HDMI port. Most TVs made in the last fifteen years have several.
Step 3: Connect the HDMI Cable
- Plug one end of the HDMI cable into the port labeled HDMI OUT on the back of the player.
- Plug the other end into an HDMI port on your TV, and note its number, like HDMI 1 or HDMI 2.
HDMI carries both picture and sound, so that's the only cable you need.
Step 4: Power On and Pick the Input
- Plug the player's power cord into the wall and turn on your TV.
- Press POWER on the remote, or the small power button on the right side of the player.
- On your TV remote, press Input or Source and choose the HDMI number you noted.
Step 5: First-Time Setup
The first time you turn the player on, a setup screen appears:
- Language: use the arrow buttons to choose your language, then press ENTER.
- Screen size: for most flat-screen TVs, choose 16:9.
- Network: connect to Wi-Fi now, or press the blue D button to skip it. You can always set it up later. The BD-J5100 and BD-JM51 have no Wi-Fi, so use an Ethernet cable in the LAN port if you want them online.
Step 6: Remote Basics
- HOME opens the main menu.
- Arrow buttons and ENTER move around and select.
- RETURN goes back one step.
- PLAY, PAUSE and STOP control the movie.
Step 7: Play a Disc
- Press the eject button on the front of the player, or OPEN/CLOSE on the remote, to slide out the disc tray.
- Set the disc in with the label facing up, then press eject again to close the tray.
- Playback starts automatically. If it doesn't, press HOME, choose Play Disc and press ENTER.
These players play Blu-rays, DVDs and CDs.
Troubleshooting
- No picture: make sure your TV is on the right HDMI input, and push the HDMI cable in firmly at both ends.
- Remote doesn't work: check the batteries and point the remote straight at the player.
- Disc won't play: make sure it's a U.S. disc. These players play region A Blu-rays and region 1 DVDs.
